John Edwards Sex Scandal

Author’s note: This is a repost of my column from December 19, 2007. After being caught with his hand in the Nookie Jar (again!), this old post is more relevant that ever!

Drudge and the Enquirer are reporting that Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is the father of a former campaign worker’s unborn child. For the record, the mother-to-be, Rielle Hunter (absolutely no relation), is saying publicly that the father is Andrew Young-no, not that Andrew Young, but another Andrew Young whom John Edwards has called his closest friend. Privately however she has told friends that the father of the child is indeed, John Edwards.

Reaction to the news has been swift, a spokesperson for the Hillary Clinton campaign declared that “this blatant attempt to court the supporters of the former president, will be seen for what it is. Hillary knows Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton is a friend of hers; John, you’re no Bill Clinton.” When asked to comment during a stop, the former president said he had spoken with John Edwards to congrat…er…offer any support he could.  Arianna Huffington attacked Ms. Hunter, saying “It is obvious that ze voman es a Republican plant, ef she vas a Democrat she vould have had an abortion to protect ze party.” Massachusetts senator Ted Kennedy reportedly contacted the Edwards campaign and volunteered to drive her to her next doctor’s appointment.

All kidding aside, what a sleeze this guy truly is. With his wife battling terminal cancer and on the stump for him daily, John Edwards lacks not only the decency to honor his vows, but is unable to keep himself from bringing embarrasment and ridicule on her and the rest of his family because he has no morals. I guess though, he may be right when he says there are two America’s -one that is faithful and honest and one that isn’t. At least now, we all can see the “America” in which he lives.

  • Reality Check

It’s good to know that someone can be so easily tried and convicted by the Press. Its definitely one place where you aren’t innocent until proven guilty. And hey, even if you are found to be innocent later, you’ve already been punished and your reputation tarnished for life.
Thanks RoaringDragon.. I would recommend staying out of your glass house though.
